Seaven Studios announces the game they've been working on! They want your help and feedback now in the Alpha Stage! Exclamation point indeed!

It’s coming this Summer to PSN and PCs everywhere! It’s no longer trying to be sneaky. As a matter of fact, our until-recently-stealthy friends from Lille, France, Seaven Studio, are laying their baby wide open to the elements!

Ethan: Meteor Hunter is a platforming puzzler which revolves around our hero, a mouse who became exposed to fragments of this interstellar interloper. Unlike Stephen King in Creepshow who turns into a plant-man, Ethan becomes telekinetic like Stephen King’s Carrie without the specter of spontaneous gym-shower sanguination. Ethan travels through three different worlds and 50 levels as he tries to reconstitute the pulverized meteor.

When Seaven announced their existence they talked about involving their fans in the process of development. They weren’t kidding. Have a look at the video below and become involved in the development by downloading the Alpha Demo onto your computer and sending the studio your feedback.

We had some alone time a few weeks back with Krieg, the sixth playable character for Borderlands 2. Everything you need to know about the wildest addition to an already crazy universe is right here.

Announced during PAX East, the sixth playable character for Borderlands 2, Krieg, is upon us. A few weeks back, I got to sit down with Ryan Heaton, Lead Level Designer and Adam Fletcher, PR and Marketing Manager at Gearbox Software and we took a long look at all that Krieg has to offer.

Coming to us straight from the twisted mind of Paul Hellquist, Creative Director for Borderlands 2, the Psycho Bandit, Krieg, is literally a game changer. Seriously, take everything you know about combat in Borderlands and throw it right out the window because it won’t work here. Hellquist has been wanting to make this character class for some time now and he finally got his chance.

All the expected humor is present in Krieg with his actions and of course, dialogue. As a psycho, he’ll often have fights with himself as his calmer side can and will argue with his more aggressive side at any time during gameplay. It’s quite hilarious and a lot of fun to play.

Krieg’s main Action Skill is Buzz Axe Rampage and every time he strikes with his over-sized bad ass buzz axe, he gets full health. In the Bloodlust Skill Tree, when you fire your weapon and it does damage to anyone, you build a stack and every single hit continues to build the stack. The result of this then alters all the skills in this Tree. For example, your Buzz Axe Rampage will last 10-15 seconds with a 120 second cool down period, but when you have Blood Trance, for every stack, the Rampage time gets increased.

Buzz Axe Bombardier will add dynamite to your Buzz Axe when you throw it, so even if you don’t quite hit your target you’ll still be able to do a lot of splash damage, increased of course by the number of stacks you have at the time. The big daddy at the bottom of the Tree is the Bloodsplosion. When you kill an enemy with say, 10,000 Damage but they only needed maybe 7,000 Damage to die, the extra 3,000 gets funneled into an Elemental Nova from the body of the dearly deceased which, again, increases with the number of stacks you have at the time, great stuff.

The Mania Tree is probably the nuttiest of the bunch because everything here increases when you’re just about to die. With Empty The Rage, your melee damage gets increased but you get additional bonuses if your shield is down and even more if you’ve already emptied the clip in your gun. Feed The Meat increases your maximum health but also increases your shield recharge delay. Pull The Pin will drop a grenade automatically when you die and if you happen to kill an enemy, you’ll get double XP from it.

Another fun skill, Field Of Rampage, lets you take more damage while decreasing the 120 second cool down period of your Action Skill. It also allows teammates to damage you which decreases the cool down period even more. Silence The Voices increases melee damage but increases the chance that you’ll attack yourself because, hey, he’s a psycho after all. Release The Beast will turn you into a Badass Psycho when you activate your Action Skill while at 33% health or less. This actually physically transforms Krieg’s arms, one tiny, one huge, and increases your melee damage exponentially and allows you to use your Action Skill again immediately when it ends allowing you to chain it again and again as long as you’re still at 33% health or less.

The biggest effect on gameplay however comes from Light The Fuse. With this skill equipped, when you get into a Fight For Life situation, Krieg is able to continue moving at full speed, dynamite in hand, throwing it at every enemy you can find. You can, alternatively, get close to an enemy and hold down X to detonate the dynamite in a suicidal blaze of glory and if you happen to kill that enemy, you’re instantly revived.

The Hellborn Tree revolves entirely around you being on fire. Yup, you need to be on fire so this one is seriously insane (and fun). Your first skill increases your chances to catch on fire when you ignite an enemy and all subsequent skills rely on you being on fire. For instance, the Numb Nerves Skill will decrease all damage while you’re on fire. So not only does it decrease the fire damage (yes, you’re still taking damage from being on fire, even though it’s required here) but it’ll also decrease any gun or melee damage you receive.

Delusional Damage will let you catch on fire with any element gun, while Hellfire Halitosis turns your melee swing into you breathing fire. However, the last skill in this Tree is one of my favorites, Raving Retribution. With it, when you take damage, your body will automatically shoot out homing fireballs once per second, it’s absolutely insane.

Krieg will be available this Tuesday, May 14 on the PlayStation Store for $9.99 and I can assure you, it’ll be worth every penny.

Jehanne Rousseau, head of Spiders Studio, thinks her English is good enough for this video to not include subtitles. How do you think that works out for her? Come inside and check it out!
(Commentée par Jehanne Rousseau, CEO du studio Spiders!)

The folks behind Mars War Logs have released a development overview video which tries to outline the particulars of design and gameplay. The extraordinary problem with the video is its host’s amazingly thick French accent! I think I got the gist. Something about Mars. And there’s a war. And we keep track of it?

I did understand that all choices made during the game affect the outcome. I’m pretty sure I heard that right. And that’s cool. It’s becoming de rigueur for player’s choices to make differences in games. At any rate, the graphics look great and the art design is really superb in this overview video. I hope it holds true for the game upon release.

Check out the website as well. It’s well produced and intricate for a primarily downloadable game.

How can a game this good get any better? Iron Galaxy and Capcom had some ideas...that's how!

Darkstalkers Resurrection, see my review, has been made even better by a new patch which dropped very recently.

The patch provides multiplayer functionality where once none existed. It’s almost like Iron Galaxy hacked their own game and made it so good it shouldn’t be legal. All I know is, with this new functionality, I’d like to change my review from 9.5 to 9.79745!

Check out this patch announcement trailer and see for yourself. Then for Pete’s sake get the game from the PSN!

I was lucky enough to get an interview with Overkill Software (a Starbreeze Studio), they are bringing out a sequel to their intense co-operative first person shooter which has become something of a cult classic.

I was lucky enough to get an interview with David Goldfarb, Overkill‘s Game Director on PAYDAY 2. Overkill Software (a Starbreeze Studio), they are bringing out a sequel to their intense co-operative first person shooter which has become something of a cult classic. So without further ado, let’s get this started.

PS Nation: I loved the idea from the first game of the No Mercy DLC which was set in Left 4 Dead‘s very own Mercy Hospital before the outbreak, and saw the gang on a quest for some infected blood for some potential buyers on the outside. Will we see anything else like that again?

Overkill: We talk about a lot of crazy things in the office and we talk about a lot of crazy things with Valve. Exploring the margins of their universe and redefining our own gives us a ton of opportunities for gameplay and setting. We absolutely plan to work with them again and it’s something we want to go a lot further with this time.

PS Nation: Whenever a new game is announced for the PlayStation 3 one of the most asked questions is ‘Will there be a Vita version?’ So I may as well save everyone the trouble.

Overkill: No Vita at this time. Once we get out of development for the PS3 we will have to look at that again.

PS Nation: Everyone knows about the PlayStation 4 now, what do you think of Sony’s new system and will you be doing anything for it in the future?

Overkill: PS4 is amazing. It is a bigger shift than last time and I think that we, as a very flexible developer, will be able to crank tons of gameplay out of it. You saw us there on the PS4 announcement – smack in the middle.

PS Nation: I received a brilliant response when I asked for community questions, I was going to pick a few good ones to ask but I couldn’t decide which to leave out, so I asked them all. Starting with Mike Ramond who asks ‘Will your AI teammates be able to complete objectives? Like grab the bag or tie the hostage?’

Overkill: We have moved to a fully cooperative game, so we will not have AI bot teammates as such. The player can heist on his own but will need to turn to other players for the extra muscle.

PS Nation: Jerry Dormetus from our Facebook group wonders if there ‘Is there a continuing narrative in PD2 from PD1?’

Overkill: It is hard to say that there is a continuing narrative in the conventional sense, since it is not a conventionally linear narrative, but the PAYDAY crew will make a return, older, grimmer, and hopefully wiser.

PS Nation: Will anything from the first game carry over in some way? Or as Connor Mackenzie ‏@noobofdoom from twitter puts it.. ‘Will we get the original heists?’

Overkill: Can’t comment on this beyond saying, yes, there will be nods to the old game, absolutely.

PS Nation: I’ll finish off by asking some questions from Twitter starting with Joe White ‏@Bulkoth, he asks ‘are weapons tied to the classes? Can I direct hostages? Still lots of hidden secrets?’

Overkill: Weapons are not tied to player professions with the exception of the saw. Some profession skills will definitely make you more effective with a subclass of weapon, however.

We have definitely spent a lot of effort fixing civilian response to player intimidation – zip tying, and just civilian behavior in general. They might try to make a phone call to the cops when you aren’t looking, or run out the door, they will dive to the ground when there’s gunfire, etc. So in general we are trying to make the world more believable.

Secret? What secret?

PS Nation: Another Twitter question from NKyT, I don’t think that’s their real name a.k.a @GamerMcbaggin wonders ’How much will the game cost and’ more importantly ’will there be a beta for anyone who pre-orders?’

Overkill: We are still discussing price point and beta/preorder.

PS Nation: SargentJones with the Twitter handle ‏@SargentJones asks ‘how much does community feedback from PAYDAY 1 affect the decisions you make when you’re developing PAYDAY 2?’

Overkill: We have been on the forums since day 1. Most of the DLC ideas came from there and all our updates were developed thanks to the feedback from our community. We have been siphoning the forum for PAYDAY 2 ideas for over a year now. It will be cool for fans to see their suggestions integrated in the game.

PS Nation: The scary sounding Darknigthmare, ‏@Darknigthmare1 asks the final question, and it’s if there is a ‘reward for players of the first game?’

Overkill: Yes sir

PS Nation: A big thank you from everyone at PSNation.com we look forward to playing Payday 2.

It seems like Overkill Software have learnt a lot about what worked from the first game. With skill trees to hone your character into a unique badass and levels with dynamic elements to make every playthrough different. Payday 2 is shaping up to be something very special indeed. Now if you don’t mind I’m going to go and watch Heat and wait until later this year when this game finally comes out.
