The next installment in the Call of Duty franchise was officially announced today after some leaks outed its existence last week. Call of Duty: Ghosts will be releasing for the PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox 360 on November 5th. Ghosts will also be released for next generation consoles, but obviously they cannot give a release date for those.

The game will be developed by Modern Warfare developer, Infinity Ward, and will run on an all new game engine that will help the transition from current to next generation systems. Mark Rubin, executive producer at Infinity Ward said, “We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.”

In continuing the Call of Duty-Microsoft love-fest the first look at Call of Duty: Ghosts will have to wait till May 21st when Microsoft announces their new Xbox machine. Till then you can check out a teaser trailer below.

With Call of Duty moving on from the Modern Warfare franchise and starting fresh with new characters and story do you think Ghosts will continue Call of Duty’s domination in First Person Shooters and sales?

Just a nerd from the Windy City. I’m actually really bad at describing myself because I get all self-critical and self-conscious. If I’m not tweeting I’m probably just watching Buffy or Firefly for the millionth time.

  • It’s funny (although not really) that it will be show cased at microsofts nextbox reveal. I wonder how deep the money bags go for dlc on this round?

Anyway, about the game. I don’t seeing it be any different than the rest. It would be nice to see a new engine after all these years. But I still wonder if there will be a PS3/360 version? I can’t see Activision dumping the current gen so quick. Just to much money there.

It would be funny if microsoft paid them to put it on the nextbox but not the 360. Hoping it would encourage those to go out and buy the new system. But instead made them go to PS3 or even PS4.

I’m guessing the DLC will be handled the same way, one month delay.

  • I am still a big fan of Black Ops 2, and will continue to play it even after CoD: Ghosts is released. I have always been a fan of Treyarch games and haven’t like Infinity Ward that much at all.

Activision’s new game engine will definitely made the game better and eliminate a few of the quirks from the old IW 3 engine, but the engine itself will eventually make its way into Treyarch games as well.

However, overall I don’t dig how the Call of Duty franchise has a “closer” tie to the Xbox. From DLC to simple things like revealing the game on the unveiling of the 720 makes me hate the executives at Activision who decided to sign an exclusivity deal with Microsoft.

For a second it seemed as the trailer could’ve been used for something like Army of Two. The news of a new CoD being released isn’t that surprising but I am interested to see how the new engine plays out
