PS3 ‘SuperSlim’ on the way?

An FCC filing registered by Sony seems to have let slip on a new PlayStation 3 model.

What has already been dubbed the ‘SuperSlim’ by many, the updated series of models begins with the CECH-4001. The current models of PS3 Slim reside in the CECH-3000 series.

You may remember that back in 2009, Gamescom was the platform for Sony revealing a PS3 price drop, along with the new version of the console. With the same event coming up in just a few weeks time, it looks like once again this exciting announcement will occur at the German-based expo.

Around a month ago, Shuhei Yoshida of Sony admitted the following to Eurogamer, when questioned on a hardware revision:

“We should never say never – hardware guys are always looking at ways to make things cheaper, smaller.”

Take a look at the leaked diagram below, and let us know what you think about this potential new PS3.

This is good news. Hope it does not loose any features.

My PS3 has started to make a bit of a grinding noise when playing dvd’s, feels like it may be the beginning of the end. I’ll be keen to see what this turns out to be.
