Assassin’s Creed Heading to Vita?

According to a NeoGaf post, an Assassin’s Creed game could be coming to the PlayStation Vita this fall. Early speculation pointed to a direct port of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but new information suggests otherwise. Developed by Ubisoft Sofia, Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation looks to be an entirely new experience built for the handheld.

The game is set in the same time period as Assassin’s Creed 3 (1765-1780) during the French and Indian war. Instead of Boston and New York, AC3: Liberation takes place in New Orleans. The main protagonist is Aveline, a female assassin of French/African descent. Aveline’s mentor, an escaped slave, is the leader of the assassins in New Orleans. The story will have no connection to Desmond at all and according to the post, AC3: Liberation is a  “propaganda tool by Abstergo, who want players to experience a gray area of the Assassin/Templar conflict as an Assassin rather than a Templar.” Other than that, little is known about the story line in AC3: Liberation.

In the picture, Aveline is wielding a pistol in one hand and the famous assassin blade in the other. Other new weapons include sugarcane machetes, muskets, and even grenades. Like in AC3, the wildlife will play a role in the game. Animals like alligators will be scattered across the shores and in the dark, murky waters.

The player will be able to “explore the entirety of New Orleans without loading a new area.” Gameplay will also be taken across the Gulf and into Mexico. The post goes on to state that exploration is done in familiar stylized-parkour fashion that the Assassin’s games have been known for.

The release date is said to be October 30, the same as AC3. I’m sure we will hear more about it from Ubisoft and Sony in the next couple of days at E3.
